Our Ethos

At our core, we are defined by four fundamental values that drive our passion for crafting kilts:

Excellent craftmanship

Craftsmanship is the very essence of what we do. Each kilt is meticulously handcrafted by us, Mathilde and Jonathan, from start to finish. With a deep-rooted respect for the traditional techniques learned from experienced Scottish kiltmakers, we ensure that every stitch is a testament to the artistry and dedication that goes into our kilts.

Inclusivity

We firmly believe that kilts should be worn and enjoyed by everyone, regardless of their gender, body type, nationality, personal background, and any other factor. Our commitment to inclusivity is unwavering, and we take pride in creating kilts that cater to all individuals. Our kilts are tailored to fit you perfectly and make you feel empowered.
As kiltmakers, we want to celebrate individuality and style, honoring the unique identity of each wearer. Join us in uniting under the banner of inclusivity, where everyone is free to express themselves authentically through their kilts!
We are proud to emphasize that we wholeheartedly welcome and support members of the LGBTQ+ community.🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Sustainability

As kiltmakers, we acknowledge the negative impact of the fashion industry, and our responsibility to the environment and people. Our commitment to sustainability is deeply ingrained in our practices.

Here is what we do to reduce our negative impact as a business:

  • We craft our kilts to last a lifetime (and more!), using high-quality materials and time-tested techniques. By creating durable and timeless pieces, we reduce the need for frequent replacements, thus minimising waste.
  • Unless required otherwise by our customers, we only use fabric made of natural fibres for our kilts, mostly tartan and tweeds made of 100% wool.
  • Whilst most of the raw wool used to weave tartans woven in Scotland is sourced from New Zealand and Australia due to their sheeps’ wool’s exceptional properties, it is then entirely transformed and finished locally. Moreover, some tartans are now woven in 100% British wool, feel free to ask more details about it.
  • The vast majority of our materials, sewing supplies that we us for our bespoke kilts and tartan accessories, as well as the other accessories that we offer (sporrans, sgian dubh etc.) are sourced from local businsses and crafted in Scottish and the UK.
  • When shipping products to you, we do our best to employ eco-conscious packaging
  • When journeying between Scotland and France, both for professional and personal reasons, we wholeheartedly embrace slow travel by opting for trains instead of flying.

We are aware than we can always do better and for this reason, we are consistently exploring ways to reduce the ecological footprint of our kilts, products and services and introductive more and better practices to reduce our negative impact, and create positive one!

Work ethics

At the heart of our ethos lies a profound commitment to crafting ethical kilts that go beyond mere quality and craftsmanship. Unlike many self-employed kiltmakers who often receive meager compensation “per kilt” when working for kilt shops, we made a deliberate choice to forge our own path from the outset of our kiltmaking career, proudly maintaining our independence.
This decision not only grants us complete control over the excellence of each kilt we create but also allows us to compensate ourselves fairly, honoring the true worth of our craft while securing its future continuity. Embracing this sustainable approach, we continue to practice our art with unwavering passion and dedication, aspiring to one day pass on our invaluable expertise to the next generations of kiltmakers.
Our dedication to ethical practices extends far beyond the confines of our workshop doors. We foster respectful and equitable relationships with both our valued customers and trusted suppliers, ensuring that every aspect of our business reflects our commitment to fairness and integrity.
As you don our meticulously crafted kilts, you actively participate in preserving en endangered craft, and wear the values of authenticity, quality, and ethical craftsmanship.

We invite you to join us in celebrating the spirit of excellent craftsmanship, inclusivity, sustainability and work ethic. Each kilt we create embodies these values, and we are honored to be a part of your journey in wearing a piece that is not only remarkable but also aligned with the principles we hold dear.

Thank you for supporting our vision and choosing us as your trusted kiltmakers!
